A bit premature to say that "Kohli chose to go out in style" - he may yet endorse things that will be far-right. and while not a fan of Pratap Bhanu Mehta's 2013-14 era writings, the last 2-3 years have seen him emerge as a vocal and direct critique. Example: his article after the abolition of article 370.
